CUE Haven Native Forest Carbon Project

We’re proud to be supporting the CUE Haven Native Forest Carbon Project, a community‑led restoration initiative transforming a former farm into a thriving native forest and ecological sanctuary.

Located near the Kaipara Harbour, CUE Haven is a 24+ hectare property owned and managed by the CUE Haven Community Trust. Since grazing ceased in 2008, the land has been restored from degraded pasture and wetlands into regenerating ngahere through extensive native planting, wetland rehabilitation, and ongoing pest control .

What makes this project especially inspiring is the scale of community involvement. Over 5,500 volunteers have helped plant more than 175,000 native trees, build walking tracks and boardwalks, and contribute to the long‑term care of the site. Restoration efforts have led to the return of native birdlife such as kererū, tūī, ruru and piwakawaka, along with improved stream and wetland health supporting species like kōkopu and kōura .

CUE Haven now operates as a community‑owned nature reserve, offering a place for education, quiet enjoyment, and connection with nature. The project also generates high‑integrity native forest carbon credits, with revenue helping to support the ongoing management and protection of this special place.

At Ekos, we love supporting projects like CUE Haven — projects that deliver genuine climate action while restoring ecosystems, supporting biodiversity, and strengthening community connections. Carbon finance plays an important role in making long‑term restoration like this possible, and we’re proud to help bring these credits to market.

Credits from the CUE Haven project are currently available, and we encourage organisations looking to take meaningful climate action to explore opportunities to support this outstanding community‑driven initiative.
