Pioneering Nature-Based Projects
Nature-based solutions for carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, climate resilience
Ekos has been at the forefront of developing forest carbon and biodiversity projects since 2014, when we certified New Zealand's first Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) project— the Rarakau Rainforest Carbon Project.
We were also the first company in New Zealand to successfully develop forest carbon projects in the Pacific Islands, leading the technical elements of the very first certified rainforest carbon projects in Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands.
Today, we continue to develop and support nature-based climate solutions across three key areas: NZ ETS carbon projects, internationally certified VCM carbon projects, and our groundbreaking BioCredita biodiversity credits programme.
Some projects listed here have been developed or co-developed by Ekos. Other projects have been developed by other organisations but where we support them by selling their carbon credits. Included in this section are projects with carbon credits available for purchase, and others are out of stock, or fully subscribed by buyers and/or investors.
NZETS Carbon Projects available for credit purchase
The projects listed here include those developed or co-developed by Ekos, as well as projects from partner organisations whose credits we bring to market. All are registered under New Zealand’s Emissions Trading Scheme and involve native forest restoration.
Each carbon credit represents one tonne of CO2 absorbed and verified by the New Zealand government. Credit availability varies, with some projects currently in stock and others fully subscribed by buyers and investors.

VCM Carbon Projects available for credit purchase
Ekos pioneered Voluntary Carbon Market projects in both New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. In 2014, we certified Rarakau as New Zealand's first VCM project. We were also the first New Zealand company to successfully develop forest carbon projects in the Pacific, establishing the very first certified projects in Fiji, Vanuatu, and the Solomon Islands. These internationally certified projects are independently verified to ensure real climate benefits through rainforest protection and restoration.

BioCredita Projects available for credit purchase
Ekos BioCredita is the first biodiversity credit programme in the world validated to the Biodiversity Credit Alliance integrity principles. We established this programme with Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari as the foundation project. Each credit funds completed conservation work, not future promises. Activities include pest control, habitat restoration, species protection, and fence monitoring. These independently verified credits offer businesses a transparent way to support nature restoration in New Zealand.
