2025 Year in Review
A Year of Connection, Credibility, and Impact
As we wrap up another busy and inspiring year at Ekos, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the collective progress of our Sustainability Consulting and Nature-Based Solutions teams. In 2025, the connection between carbon, climate risk, and nature has never been more important. Across both teams, this year’s work reflects strong collaboration and a practical focus on delivering outcomes that are meaningful for both organisations and the natural environment.

Building Future Capability Through Education and Partnerships
The Sustainability Consulting Team continued to invest in future capability through an expanded internship programme, providing opportunities to more than 10 students, including international interns. Strong partnerships with the University of Canterbury and Victoria University of Wellington supported hands-on learning across multiple areas of carbon and sustainability practice.
Advancing Climate Risk and Disclosure Practice
In partnership with Tonkin & Taylor, the team delivered a Climate Risk Workshop at the CEP 2025 Conference, sharing applied insights with professionals across the sector. The team also undertook a deep dive into the first rounds of climate-related disclosures, strengthening internal capability and positioning clients to respond to evolving regulatory expectations.
Strengthening Methodologies and Frameworks
A key milestone was the endorsement of Ekos’ climate risk assessment and reporting methodology by Victoria University of Wellington, under the guidance of Dr. Yinka Moses. Alongside this, carbon management frameworks were enhanced to better align with emerging climate disclosure standards, ensuring clarity, credibility, and consistency for clients.
Supporting Clients and Telling Sustainability Stories
Throughout the year, the team supported SMEs on their sustainability journeys, with a strong focus on carbon footprinting and reduction strategies. Our communications guidelines evolved into a comprehensive communications package, enabling clients to clearly and confidently tell their sustainability and carbon accounting stories.

Biodcredita: A New Era for Biodiversity Credits
One of our proudest achievements this year was launching the Ekos BioCredita, our pioneering biodiversity credits programme. After years of development, we launched the biodiversity credits scheme by issuing, trading and retiring BioCredita on the Ekos SD Registry, took the new standard on the road, speaking at conferences, workshops, and community events across Aotearoa.
Introducing Ekos Forever Forests
Another major milestone was the launch of Ekos Forever Forests, our new partnership business built to connect teams with tangible, meaningful nature-restoration work. EFF offers a new model for native reforestation & carbon removals by giving businesses an end-to-end service that is built on best practice.
A Huge Year for Field Work
Our field work team has had an exceptionally full calendar—travelling the length of the country to conduct site visits, measure trees, and ensure our projects are delivering robust, nature-positive outcomes. Their dedication keeps our programmes grounded in real, high-quality data and ensures the ecosystems we support are thriving.
Innovative Scoping Work and New Opportunities
This year also brought a range of fascinating scoping projects—each one expanding our horizons and challenging us to think differently. These opportunities have strengthened our technical expertise, pushed our creativity, and helped shape what the next generation of nature-based solutions could look like.
Sharing Knowledge & Leading the Conversation
We were proud to attend the Carbon Forestry Conference, where CEO, Sean Weaver took the stage to present on “The Next Generation of Voluntary Markets.” His insights sparked thoughtful discussions about integrity, innovation, and the future of climate-positive finance.
What Makes It All Possible: Our People
Above all, this year has been defined by the incredible people we work with. We’ve been lucky to collaborate with very talented, genuine, and good-hearted individuals in the environmental sector. The passion, curiosity, and care that each of you brings to the table is what makes Ekos not just a workplace, but a team genuinely making a difference.
Looking Ahead — Together
Across both teams, 2025 has been defined by strong collaboration, growing technical capability, and the ability to deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines. Whether supporting organisations through carbon and climate disclosure, or restoring ecosystems through nature-based solutions, our people remain at the heart of everything we do.
As we look to 2026, we’re excited to continue strengthening the connection between carbon and nature, deepening partnerships, and delivering solutions that create lasting climate and environmental impact.
